“A PERSONAL MISSION”
BATMAN: ARKHAM ORIGINS
WB GAMES MONTREAL / PS3, XBOX 360, PC / 2013
ROLE: CREATIVE DIRECTOR / Vision holder
I was hired to build a team and deliver a new Arkham entry on a 2-year schedule. My remit: Find something that added to the Arkham franchise.
We chose a prequel - a story about a younger, angrier Bruce still earning the legend. The mission was to define his emotional core, protect the franchise’s combat and stealth DNA, and ship a landmark Batman title that could stand beside Rocksteady’s work.
No pressure.
We scaled WB Games Montreal from a roguish handful to a 120-plus devteam, set the game’s tone and pillars, and aligned story, design, and cinematics into one voice. Blur and Tim Miller crafted the reveal. Christopher Drake’s score set our spine. Performances from Roger Craig Smith, Troy Baker, and JB Blanc grounded the myth in character.
Result: a prequel that became part of the Arkham canon, with character designs and narrative beats that bled into comics, TV, and film.
